Lost in Translation

With air travel making it easier ever to live, work and holiday abroad it's not uncommon for many of us to have a wide circle of friends spread across numerous different countries.

While we may not speak the language this doesn't mean we can't try our damnedest to pass off as one of the locals; although when it comes to the threat of getting lost in translation, the world wide web can be as much of a help as it is a hindrance.

At PunkDog HQ, it's not uncommon for us to receive orders from beer fans around the globe looking to share a little of BrewDog's beery goodness and PunkDog's label personalisation genius with friends and family in foreign climes.

While we're sure all our orders traveling across country and continent are impeccably spelt, we decided to put our own set of birthday phrases and greetings to the test with the help of an online translator.

The result? Well put it this way, you can't exactly bottle humour but you can definitely put it on a label as we're sure our recipients will agree.

From English to Indonesian and back again:

Our original message:
You're how old? It's time to wipe away those cob webs and grab yourself a beer!

What the label really says:
How long have you been? It's time to remove those cobwebs and have your own beer!

From English to Russian and back again:

Our original message:
Lock up your daughters! Happy 21st hell raiser, we've got a bet on this will be your best year yet. From the lads!

What the label really says:
Lock up your daughters! Happy 21st and handle hell we got a bet on this will be your best year yet. With kids!

From English to Slovak and back again:

Our original message:

Who'd have thought you'd make it this far! We're all so shocked! Anyway, happy birthday son with love from all the gang including mum, dad and a big barking lick from Pickles the dog

What the label really says:

Who would have thought I'd make it this far! We're all so shocked. Anyway, happy 18th Of all the gang, including mom, dad and big bay birthday dog lick of cucumbers (Slovak)
